How big are the motors (HP), heaters or rectifier? If the load contains heaters or rectifiers, what is the KW rating? “The converter has to put out 60 amps” is a VERY POOR way to select a converter. A converter doesn’t put out anything that the load does not require. The ONLY significant load information is the ACTUAL HP or amperage the load will pull at its full rating.

Why is this important?

Converters are sized based the HP or KW rating of the largest single load. A common sizing mistake is to specify the load in amps. Often, the amperage specified is actually the recommended branch circuit size for the load equipment. But the branch circuit breaker is ALWAYS larger than the load. The converter can usually be much smaller thus saving a lot of $$$.
