Sample Quote: Phasemaster Rotary Converter for Taylor Model C791 Soft Ice Cream Machines

Thank you for your inquiry. Kay Industries has been applying single to 3-phase rotary converters on all types of equipment for nearly 50 years and is widely recognized as the engineering leaders in phase converter systems. The Phasemaster® converter brand has accumulated a vast amount of operating experience on all types of batch freezers with the Carpigiani Brand in particular. It is also the converter of choice for Taylor, Stoelting, Electrofreeze, Bravo and many others.

All Phasemaster® rotary phase converters  are backed by a full five-year warranty including lifetime coverage on bearings and an unconditional performance guarantee that it will operate your equipment to the same specifications as on utility 3-phase lines.

We understand your application is operate six (6) Taylor Model C791 soft ice cream machines from a single converter.  Per our discussion we are selecting a converter that will operate at least four of the six machines simultaneously at full rated load.  We expect the converter will actually operate more than that since it is highly unlikely that all machines will be running at full capacity at the same time.

The C791 features 2-1.5HP beater motors and a 9500BTU refrigeration compressor and lists a demand of 12A per unit at 230V/3-phase.  Based upon four units operating precisely at full load simultaneously that would require 48A which is slightly more than 15HP of total load.  On this basis we are quoting our Phasemaster converter Model MA-3-LSV which is capable of starting up to 15HP.  Do not be fooled by this start rating.  The converter can easily operate a total load of 20-25HP or more which is why I believe it could actually run all six Taylor machines together, however unlikely that might be.

The converter includes a special regulating accessory (indicated by the –LSV suffix) to adjust the output voltage to achieve balanced output voltages regardless of the number of machines running. The -LSV suffix does not appear in the product literature because it is an internal accessory and does not affect the converter dimensions. The price of the MA-3-LSV is $xxxx.

A converter is a rotating machine that must be turned on to produce 3-phase power.  Thus it requires a disconnect switch for on-off control. The switch can be added in the field or it can be supplied as a built-in feature. That makes the model number MA-3-R-LSV with a price of $xxxx plus shipping.  Either of these configurations can be shipped within 5-7 business day.

It is essential that there be adequate single-phase service for this equipment. The most reliable way to calculate the size of the service is to allow a minimum of 5 amps (and preferably 6amps) of single-phase supply per horsepower of load.  In this case you should plan to provide a minimum circuit size of 80Amps (100A would be better) at 240V single-phase. This will assure that you have plenty of power to operate the maximum number of machines.

Attached is a package of product literature including description, dimensions, connections diagrams and FAQ’s about phase converters. Additional detailed product data on the Phasemaster® converter, including complete installation manuals, selection guides, application papers, sound level audio files, translations and other support information is available on our web site www.kayind.com

Thank you again for your interest in Kay Industries. We look forward to working with you on this project.
