Thank you for your interest in Phasemaster® rotary converters. Kay Industries has been applying converters on all types of equipment for nearly 50 years and is widely recognized to be the engineering leader in phase converter systems. Our experience list now numbers over 10 million motor horsepower in service and 1500 radio and television stations worldwide.
All Phasemaster® rotary phase converters are backed by a full five-year warranty including lifetime coverage on bearings and an unconditional performance guarantee that it will will provide the identical performance obtained from utility supplied 3-phase lines or you may return it for full credit.
Based on our conversation, we understand your requirement is to operate a 3-phase 240V shear with a 5HP motor and possibly one additional machine of 5-7.5HP capacity all from a 100A, single-phase 240V supply. After kicking it around and considering what possible additional loads might be added, and looking at the size of your service, our best recommendation of the proper converter for this application is the Phasemaster Model MA-1B. This converter is rated to start a single 7.5HP motor but can actually power up to 20HP of total nameplate horsepower as long as the motors are started sequentially. (Unfortunately, as we calculated, your 100A service would be able to support only about 15HP of load after allowing for your lighting and other miscellaneous single-phase loads. The price of this unit is $xxx and is in stock for immediate shipment. Freight charges are additional. Normal shipping time from our factory to the west coast is four days.
A rotary converter must be running to produce 3-phase power. As such you must provide some type of on-off control. This can be as simple as a field-mounted fused disconnect switch or we can include it as a built-in accessory to the converter. This would be the model MA-1B-R and sells for $xxxx plus shipping. This configuration is the same electrical capacity but it contains the fused switch and a side mounted terminal compartment and lugs for a simple “2-wires in, 3-wires out” installation that will save considerable field labor.
Attached is a package of product literature including description, dimensions, connections diagrams and FAQ’s about phase converters.
